Dr. Sean Wise, Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Ted Rogers School of Management, used his Learning & Teaching Grant to explore the impact of experiential learning in entrepreneurship education. His initiative sought to bridge the gap between theoretical business concepts and real-world application by integrating a hands-on sales module into his course, New Venture Creation.
Through a series of structured experiments, students engaged in real sales efforts, learning firsthand about consumer engagement. Initial challenges revealed that students were more motivated and successful when selling products they personally selected rather than those assigned. Iterative refinements to the course significantly increased participation and effectiveness, reinforcing the importance of adaptability in both business and education.
By creating a safe environment for experimentation, students gained critical insights into their strengths and areas for growth, preparing them for the realities of business leadership.
