Steve Gedeon spent his summer producing a video series from home for his students, complete with theme music and graphics.
He created his videos based on modules so he could use them in multiple courses this year and in the future.
By creating the videos before classes started, Steven freed his time to concentrate on the needs of his students. He ran shorter formal classes, but kept the Zoom meeting open so students could stay and chat about the course, or anything else they had on their minds. He found that most of them took advantage of this time to connect with him and each other.
Steven also recognized the unique relationship he had with his students during the pandemic, since for many, attending virtual classes was their only remaining connection to university life.
In the end, he found he built more meaningful connections with his students while teaching remotely than he ever had before.
