When she booked the digital learning studio to record a welcome video, Jane Griffith thought she would stop at just that. After a great recording experience, she decided to replace some of her voice-over based course content with on- camera videos.
By incorporating theses videos into her course, she found that for students, seeing their instructor on screen created a sense of connection. This helped them to engage with the course more broadly. Griffith challenges the notion that videos like these are purely cosmetic and argues that putting a face to the professor’s name can help foster a connection and support learning.
For those looking to integrate similar videos in their teaching, Griffith suggests starting early and preparing good scripts. She has found that getting to the middle of the semester with online lectures ready to go is a great feeling.
