With her Learning and Teaching Grant, Kateryna Metersky and her team at the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing set out to find the answer to a question nursing educators are currently confronting: How can we ensure nursing students demonstrate the critical skills they need and centre EDI practises, all while class sizes continue to grow?
To address this question, the team employed a two-pronged approach. First, they reviewed Nursing education literature from across the world. Then, they collected imperical data on approaches to clinical skills training from nursing schools and programs across Canada.
While she was expecting to find that the challenge was essentialy universal with no one size fits all solution, Metersky was suprised by the outpouring from her peers. As she spoke about the project at conferences, she was approached by many attendees after each presentation, looking to help and be included in next steps. She is now broadening her scope to look at curricular appoaches worldwide, revisiting Canadian schools and programs to fill in qualitative data, and working locally with students, staff, and faculty to find solutions that work specifically at TMU.
